The Byron Bay Market is a monthly community market with up to 370 stalls. It is an important source of income for stall holders and a social and cultural focus for the community. The Centre engages local performers at each market and many buskers also perform.

Visits to the market have grown substantially over the years, attracting thousands of people from across the world. An extra market is usually held during the Christmas and Easter holidays.

Each month the market management invites two local charities to be Charity of the Day. They collect donations at the entrances to the market and raise additional money through a stallholders’ raffle. This popular method of fund-raising is a major boost for many organisations.

Through Waste Wise, the market’s waste minimisation initiative, the market recycles all plastics, glass, aluminium and compostable waste.

The surplus earned from the market contributes to staff salaries at the Byron Community and Cultural Centre, in turn supporting the needs of the local community.

Supporting local business

The market gives preference to local stallholders who make and grow what they sell. It thus plays a valuable role as a business incubator.

Local arts and crafts people and other fledgling businesses can use the market to test the water in the early stages of their establishment. Many successful Byron Bay businesses began their lives at the market.
